Looking to create their first winning streak of the season, the Southwest Raiders prevailed over the Diamond Hill-Jarvis Eagles in a 68-0 drubbing at Fort Worth’s historic Farrington Field. From the opening kickoff, the Raiders took control of the game. The teams looked evenly matched until the Raiders broke the seal and put points on the board. The Eagles failed to create any true momentum throughout the game and gave up big plays on offense, defense and special teams.

An early pick-six was called back for taunting just yards from the end zone. As you can imagine, coach Joseph Turner was unhappy with the call and his defensive back, who cost himself a highlight and score. The dominance of Diamond Hill proved too much for the Raiders to handle as they amassed multiple unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. Coach Turner could be heard chastising players from the sideline, which seemed to settle the Raiders who let their play do all the talking from there.

The game was decided by halftime, but the Eagles continued their fight. Remember that these are high school scholar athletes and, over time, demoralizing losses weigh negatively on these young men. The Raiders know a thing or two about being on the other end of lopsided losses, but they were good sports in the end. The Raiders move on to Western Hills next week and set their sights on sole ownership of third place in 4A-1 Region II District 5.
