Andra Day shares fresh new single ‘Phone Dies’ produced by Anderson. Paak

Today, GRAMMY® Award-nominated and Golden Globe-winning singer/songwriter, activist, and actress Andra Day shares a fresh and glowing new soul single, “Phone Dies” on Warner Records

Paired with the slick electro-soul production of “Phone Dies” by .Paak,  Andra’s vocals radiate a heart-melting warmth. “This must sound crazy, but be my baby,” she coos, letting a brassy fanfare carry her into the chorus. “It’s so amazing, being my baby. I’ll let you feel these vibes until my phone dies.” She can’t stay for too long—but she’ll make sure you have the time of your life.

Before releasing “Phone Dies,” Andra made her feature-acting debut in Lee Daniels’ The United States vs. Billie Holiday. Her critically acclaimed performance as Holiday won the Golden Globe for “Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama” and received a coveted “Best Actress” nomination at the Oscars. For the soundtrack, Andra recorded soul-stirring covers of Holiday’s classics, like “Strange Fruit” and “Lady Sings the Blues,” and the Golden Globe-nominated original, “Tigress & Tweed,” a stormy, piano-driven ballad co-written with neo-soul pioneer Raphael Saadiq.

Andra was also honored at the Critics Choice Association’s third annual Celebration of Black Cinema on February 2 for her work in The United States vs. Billie Holiday. Andra also covered January’s V Magazine, February’s Rolling Out, and W Magazine

It’s already been a busy year for Andra Day and there’s more to come. Her TV takeover continues with an unfiltered conversation on Desus & Mero  (Showtime), an interview with Tiffany Haddish on The Ellen Degeneres Show (NBC) today, a chat and performance of “Phone Dies” on Jimmy Kimmel Live! April 19 (ABC), and a visit with The Real (FOX) on April 20. With a new studio album on the way Andra proves she has no plans of stopping anytime soon.

It’s Out Now! Read our Second Edition of The SMG Report

We survived snowmageddon. It was a regular winter storm but what we didn’t know is how unprepared our electricity grid was for it. Lights were out and to make matters worse, plumbing was affected and caused flooding to homes and businesses across the state of Texas. I wasn’t able to return to a full day of work until Wednesday of this week and I felt every piece of the delay. SoulProsper Radio couldn’t update shows, I couldn’t record the SMG Report which was supposed to be in video format and we were unsure if our power would remain on.

Once we were at a consistent point of power, I got to work. Because of our week, I was in no mood to record so I did what came natural. I started writing and after hours of editing, a lost edit (it completely disappeared) and a few hours of sleep, I’m pleased to present this edition of The SMG Report. Do I hope you like it? I just hope you read it! I’ve compiled many stories and included them in this edition exclusively. These stories would normally be on our website, but I’m putting them in this edition as I try out a new format and formula for what we do at SMG. Thanks for reading and as always, send your feedback to us at: news@soulprospermedia.com. I can’t wait to hear from you! —‘Fred

This month’s edition of The SMG Report features a cover story of ShaVonne Banks-Davis and features a portion of the interview exclusive with Bishop J. Drew Sheard. We would hate to keep you waiting, so dive in to this month’s edition and be sure to send your feedback to us at: news@soulprospermedia.com.

Andra Day premieres stunning music video for ‘The Only Way Out’ from Ben-Hur movie soundtrack

andra dayNeo-soul sensation Andra Day has been on a whirlwind of success in 2016. Her debut project, Cheers to the Fall and her single, “Rise Up”, were nominated for two 2016 GRAMMY Awards (where she performed and shared a duet with Ellie Goulding); she also performed at last week’s Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia; and last year she sang at the White House and starred in a commercial’s forCoca-Cola and Apple with her friend, mentor, and admirer, Mr. Stevie Wonder.

Now, Day has landed her ballad “The Only Way Out” on the Ben-Hur movie soundtrack, and released a concept music video for the song.

“The title is in reference to mercy; you can harbor this anger toward people in your life or you can forgive,” states Day,
“the themes in the song are the same as in the movie, believing in yourself, preserving in hope and faith”.

Mark Burnett (The Voice, Shark Tank, Celebrity Apprentice) produced the epic American historical motion picture film BEN-HUR. This Paramount Pictures/MGM movie debuts in theaters nationwide on August 19, 2016.

Bursting with action – including a chariot race for the ages – and elevated by themes of justice, liberty, redemption & radical forgiveness, it tells the classic story of Judah Ben–Hur (Jack Huston), a prince falsely accused of treason by his adopted brother Messala (Toby Kebbell), an officer in the Roman army. Stripped of his title and separated from his family and the woman he loves (Nazanin Boniadi), Judah is forced into slavery and despair. Co-star, Morgan Freeman, also delivers a stand-out performance.

For more information on BEN-HUR visit BenHurMovie.com. In theaters nationwide -August 19, 2016 in 2D, Digital 3D and IMAX 3D.
