1-800-TruckWreck, powered by Witherite Law Group, partnered with K104 FM, Dallas’ Hip-Hop and R&B station, to host its first free back-to-school “Shoesday” giveaway in the area. Designed to provide new shoes to school-aged youth as they return to school, “Shoesday” took place at WSS in Dallas on Friday, August 8.

Though the event was scheduled to start at noon, families from the area began to gather at 4:00 a.m. on Friday.  The first 104 families received one $100 gift card, sponsored by 1-800-TruckWreck. Gift cards were distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. In addition to gift cards, attendees were treated to live broadcasting from Cat Daddy, radio personality at K104 FM, and free snow cones.

The average cost of school supplies has steadily risen over the years. Today, supplies for elementary school can range from $50 to $100 per student and $150 to $200 per student for middle and high school. Add to this the cost of shoes and clothing, and families that are financially challenged may be forced to prioritize, or even forgo, some items over others. Research indicates that new shoes foster self-confidence and can lead to improved academic outcomes and in-class behavior, and 1-800-TruckWreck is providing the resources necessary to empower families to equip their students with the items needed to focus on school and start the year with poise and assurance.

1-800-TruckWreck will also sponsor the “Backpack Zone” at the For Oak Cliff Back to School Festival from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday, August 9 at 907 E. Ledbetter Dr., Dallas, TX 75216, where they will give away backpacks filled with supplies to 2,500 students. A value of over $65,000 to further help offset the cost of school supplies.  Led by Amy Witherite, Witherite Law Group and 1-800-TruckWreck are committed to putting people first, investing in the communities they serve and building bridges of opportunity that create stronger communities.

4,000 students received backpacks with supplies valued at over $65,000

1-800-TruckWreck, powered by Witherite Law Group, partnered with Dallas nonprofit For Oak Cliff as the Platinum Sponsor to distribute 4,000 backpacks filled with school supplies during the 11th annual Back-to-School Festival. As an official sponsor of the festival’s “Backpack Zone,” the firm donated more than $65,000 to help ensure that students in South Oak Cliff and surrounding areas start the new school year equipped and empowered.

Families began lining up as early as 7 a.m. for the event, which took place from 9 a.m. to noon at For Oak Cliff’s 20,000-square-foot campus. The day featured live entertainment from local performers, free food and refreshments, health and community resource booths, and appearances from Spaceboifresh of 97.9 The Beat. Attendees also enjoyed games and giveaways at the Witherite Law Group booth.

To further extend the impact of the giveaway, remaining backpacks and supplies will be delivered to several Dallas ISD campuses, including Trinity Heights, Mark Twain Elementary, Holland Elementary, Storey Elementary, and South Oak Cliff High School.

“This is about helping students start the school year with confidence and dignity,” said Amy Witherite, owner of 1-800-TruckWreck and Witherite Law Group. “A new backpack and fresh supplies can dramatically affect a child’s self-esteem and readiness to learn.”

The partnership reflects a shared commitment to educational equity. For Oak Cliff, a culturally responsive nonprofit dedicated to liberating South Oak Cliff through education and social capital, has been a cornerstone in the community since 2014, offering year-round programs such as GED classes, tutoring, Wi-Fi access, and weekly food distribution.
