I don’t want to talk about policy. I want to talk about pretense. The idea that Donald Trump and all he represents is right for America is beyond me. So, if I may, allow me to unburden my soul. I am vexed. I am distraught and I’m angry. The results of the 2024 general election are in and many of the candidates I voted for did not win their races. This is okay because, at its core, this is democracy. Two or more sides bring their candidates and policies, and the people vote on their choice. Understand that Trump is the problem and not voting for him is the solution. There’s little anyone will be able to do once he gets rolling, if he ever takes office considering the upcoming sentencing, later this month. You should remember that.

The main thing I take issue with is Trump’s grotesque disposition as a person. He speaks of himself always as superlative. He’s the best to have ever done anything and people just love him. If you disagree with him or challenge him, you’re a nasty person and the worst to have ever attempted anything. He lies and is dubious. Yet, today, he is the 47th president-elect. How can you expect a man with his disposition and temperament to do anything good for the whole of America? Hate makes you forgetful. Clearly, people who voted for Trump have forgotten how he mishandled issue after issue before and after the global pandemic that shut us down for months. His contempt for Barack Obama led him to spread lies about his birth and dissenters claim that the former 1st Lady of the United States is somehow a transgender man. Donald Trump is president-elect today because he is rarely held accountable.

I’m holding him and his supporters accountable and I won’t let hate be the policy they use in their ideal of making America great. Last night’s election results are another unthinkable tragedy in American history, whether you believe it or not. Donald Trump has made his plans clear. He has platformed hate as the motivation for the policies he will develop once in office. He has made clear that he is coming after every system in place that would hold him accountable. If he has his way, his political enemies will regret the day they put him in their crosshairs. He is emboldened by the cowardice of elected officials from across the country.

There is no king in America, but our evangelical counterparts have made it clear that there is no prophet among them, either. Many evangelicals have projected Christian principles onto the man who was convicted of 34 felonies surrounding hush money being paid to Stormy Daniels. The very people who bemoaned Christian’s support of Biden and Harris turned a blind eye and deaf ear to Donald Trump’s churlishness. There were no calls among the evangelical faithful for Donald Trump to repent or tamp down the awful rhetoric. The worst part of all this is what a Trump presidency means to decency in America.

Donald Trump has proven that he has no decency. Whether leaving bills unpaid with contractors, at campaign stops, airports or mimicking a sex act on a microphone last week. He has no plan to work for every American and voters who believe Trump to be the answer for America’s woes have also taken on his temperament. No matter what it takes, we cannot let America hate again!

I have witnessed people no longer excusing themselves when walking past in public. I have witnessed an uptick in aggressive driving. I have witnessed how many who were once open and warm have retreated to a cold and callous nature since a Trump presidency protects microaggressions and encourages separation from those unlike them. This election happened a month before Christmas, but we’ll see just how many of the MAGA faithful are truly in the “Christmas Spirit,” when it really matters. I wonder if they’ll give to the poor, donate toys or food for needy families before checking their voting record.

We’ve seen this movie before, and it doesn’t end well. While many politicians and their constituents view a second Trump presidency as their chance to reclaim what Civil Rights gave to all Americans, we can’t stand for it. My mother was born before Black people and had the right to vote or freely exist in America. I say this will surety in my soul. We will not go back to a time when non-Whites, women, immigrants, the poor, disabled or anyone else who doesn’t look or believe like them are subjugated.

The Founders of this country, though flawed, wanted the power to remain with the people. We cannot concede the power given to the people and guaranteed by the Constitution. I’m challenging every reader of this article to keep their local, state and national leaders accountable. We have seen what evil governors and representatives are willing to do. They have erased history from history books. They have banned books that shine a light on the evils of slavery, segregation and discrimination. These evil men and women gutted the Voting Rights Act and are coming for the Civil Rights Act.

Too often, we have sat by and watched things happen, but while many have chosen the worst America has to offer, we must remain resilient and hold up the Constitution and demand that the 47th president be bound to and by it. Donald Trump has proven that in order to make America great, he aims to make Americans hate again! We won’t allow any political movement to end the democratic republic known to the world as the United States of America and we without a doubt won’t be going backward!

There are tears and fears today, but we will bounce back. We always do. A second Trump presidency is not the end of democracy if we wield the power we have. We may not influence policy, and our efforts may not save us from this brazen attempt on democracy. Still, and if nothing else, we will work to influence decency. Even if a second Trump presidency implicates it, we can still choose to be better than the worst perpetration of evil in this country! No matter the cost, we won’t let America hate again!
