This game was interesting. Due to the threat of inclimate weather on game day, the Southwest/Western Hills game was moved from Saturday to Friday at 2 PM. The game was pretty evenly matched before Southwest took full control of the game. Unlike Friday night, attendance at this game was sparse. There was no student section as. There normally would be. Parents and teachers who could make the midday match attended and supported the Raiders’ winning effort.
As we have discussed before, Southwest used its efficient ground attack instead of big plays through the air. Dominating at the line of scrimmage helped Southwest make quick work of the Cougars in the second half. A name we’ve gotten used to hearing for the last few seasons, Raylon Carter was on repeat in this game. You can always expect a big play or two from the UNT commit. Besides a few solo tackles, Carter forced a fumble. With this win, Southwest seems to have shaken their slow start to the season and is making a push for a 2024 playoff appearance. Undefeated district leading Decatur awaits the Raiders in their last game of the regular season. Hopefully the Raiders make a good match for them. If not, they would only go limping into the playoffs!
