The SMG Report Game of the Week features North Crowley and Waxahachie in a duel for dominance in the “District of Doom.” You can read our game preview, here. Closer to home in district 5-4A, Eastern Hills stays hot with a big victory over Western Hills, keeping them on pace to battle Kennedale for the district title. We’ve covered this story since the preseason, but it’s nice to see our colleagues in the Star-Telegram finally take notice. Kennedale keeps rolling, with a big 42-20 win over Benbrook. The Wildcats are 5-1 and remain undefeated in district play. Eastern Hills still has games against Southwest and Kennedale remaining and Southwest could play spoiler to either team’s hope for a district title.
Southwest‘s Raider team is comfortably in third place and has a playoff spot all but secured with challenges from Eastern Hills, Kennedale and Carter-Riverside remaining. Carter-Riverside has yet to find the magic from last season, battling to emerge from the basement of 5-4A, in seventh place. Tonight, Southwest takes on Dunbar who sits in fourth place in their district race. After tonight, district standings will remain unchanged as Dunbar comes into tonight’s contest as underdogs.
In District 4-5A, we’ve got a footrace to first place. After a walk off touchdown by Carson James, the Arlington Heights Yellowjackets won the Battle of the Bonfire against Paschal and took the trophy back home to Hulen. While they were celebrating the win over their crosstown rivals, O.D. Wyatt was in White Settlement making history of their own! The Chaparrals are 6-0 for the first time in school history and after beating Brewer at home, look more formidable in 5-4A than originally thought. October 30th at Farrington Field is the place to be! The score will be settled, a district champion crowned and the playoffs will be in view for both teams! Both teams will more than likely remain undefeated until that October 30th clash. Tonight, Heights takes on North Side and Wyatt takes on South Hills.
We told you a few weeks ago that good football has returned to Fort Worth and we couldn’t be more excited about it! Each week, we get to see student athletes compete at high levels and make strides toward playing football as they pursue their higher education goals. We want to wish every team and their fans safe travels and a good game!
If you see our SMG Sports reporters at a game, stop and say hi!
