I don’t know if you saw it, but my beloved Paschal Panthers are back in the playoffs! The last time they were in the playoffs was the year before my freshman year. They made it a few rounds and I remember seeing the picture of the team on the star at Texas Stadium. We got close my senior year (2000) but came up short in a 3-0 loss to Irving Nimitz. Well, the Panthers are back and the fact that they clinched with a win over O.D. Wyatt is nothing short of poetic justice.
Wyatt and an occasional Dunbar run were our lone representatives in the advanced rounds of football, but I don’t know whether to credit parity or suburban flight to the success of the Paschal football program. Either way, they’re in the playoffs and we have something to brag about! Joining Paschal from the Fort Worth area are: Southwest, Arlington Heights, Eastern Hills, Benbrook, Dunbar, Castleberry, Crowley and North Crowley.
Time will tell if we have a contender in the mix. For now, we’re just glad to be so well represented in the end of season tournament. Which games are you attending? Tickets are already on sale for the Championship games. What an electric atmosphere, you’ll want to be there regardless of the matchup. We hope to see you there!
