After watching schools in the southern sector of Dallas County celebrate football dominance, the UIL has announced a realignment of seismic proportions. DeSoto, Duncanville and South Oak Cliff, which rose to recent prominence, will now possibly face each other long before or to earn a berth to the championship game. No one is surprised that this move has upset the programs, athletes and supporters.
In looking at the realignment, you can’t help but notice Southlake Carrol’s potential position in all of this. Not picking on them, but after being knocked out of contention for several years, the Dragons seem to be the beneficiaries of a less impeded path to the Championship, thanks to the realignment. The season is long and we’ll have to watch, wait and see how things shake up for DFW powerhouses. My dark horse for the year is North Crowley. They’re a team that has gotten hungrier and more talented since falling short of the championship game a few years ago.
What are your thoughts on the realignment? I’ve shared my opinion and in no way am I accusing the UIL of anything sinister, but from the looks of it, the State football championship in 5A and 6A may no longer run through Dallas County. We shall see and if anyone likes watching football, it’s me! Stay tuned here for updates and let me know which games you’re watching each week!
