We’ve made it to the weekend that matters in District 4-5A. Tonight’s game should determine the district winner but there are scenarios that could split this title two or three ways. With a O.D. Wyatt win, the Chapparals are favored to take the title or at worst, tie with Arlington Heights if they beat Brewer. This district was in the hands of Heights or Brewer when the season began but Wyatt’s historic run has changed all that. With eight wins, the Chaps have already matched last year’s win record. With a Heights win tonight, they district title is still in limbo. Here’s how: If Heights beats Wyatt, they remain undefeated with a decisive game against Brewer lingering next week. With a Heights loss, Wyatt takes the title and goes presumably undefeated in district play with a one or two loss team behind them in the final district standings. In a nightmare scenario, If Wyatt loses tonight and Heights loses to Brewer next week, there would be a three-way tie for first place. We’d have to open the rule book to explore the possibilities for that. Since Wyatt beat Brewer, they currently have the leverage should the final tally come down to any potential ties in the standings.

Wyatt Trampled the Steers to Remain Unbeaten in District Play

More interestingly, if Heights loses tonight and wins next week, they’re a one loss team in second place in district standings. With two losses, they would fall below Brewer and to third place in the district. If Heights wins tonight and next week, we’ll have two one loss teams in district play in Wyatt and Brewer, tied for second place. If Heights wins tonight but loses to Brewer next week, we’ll have a three-way tie with three one loss teams in district play. O.D. Wyatt and Arlington Heights come into tonight’s game with an 8-0 record and 6-0 in district play. Brewer sits on the outside with a 7-2 record, and a 5-1 district record. If Wyatt wins tonight, they’ll presumably finish the regular season undefeated with only Poly in their way next week. With a win tonight, Arlington Heights puts their undefeated record on the line against Brewer who is looking to avenge their first round loss to Heights at Farrington Field.

Brewer beat Trimble Technical last night 56-14, improving to 5-1 in the district. After tonight, Wyatt faces Poly in their season finale and Heights will face Brewer to close the season. This means that next week is a toss-up for Heights who will travel to play at Brewer.

Either way, good football is back in Fort Worth and it has been fun to watch. As we pointed out last week, the storylines in on the sidelines have been worth watching. On Wyatt’s side, you have the progeny (comprised of family and former players) of the late legendary coach, Willie Criss leading this generation of Chaparrals. On Arlington Heights sideline, coach Curtis James is leading his sons Carson and Carter. The Criss and James families are no strangers to each other. Carson James leads the ground attack and is a reliable workhouse the Yellowjackets rely on when scoring becomes scarce. On the other side of the ball, Carter James hopes to bottle up Kentrell Steward and limit his gains on the ground. Wyatt’s 2026 team looks a lot like its powerhouse teams of the late 90’s. Big upfront and speed at the skill positions.

Heights hangs on to win the ‘Battle of the Bonfire’

Wyatt isn’t without weapons and will have plenty to throw at Heights literally and figuratively as the two districts heavyweights face off tonight at Farrington Field. Got tickets? Save time at the game and buy them here. The X-factor tonight will be the weather. Rain is expected which may impact play for both teams. If you plan to come, bring an umbrella and a jacket.
